The counter tops and back splash in my 1970s style kitchen are stained and broken in some places. What kind of materials would you recommend as a replacement.
How much time and money would it take to replace the original counters in my kitchen?
Also, how long do you think it would take?

Replacing countertops can be a quick and fairly easy process. The hard part is finalizing eactly what you want from the broad range of applications.

Great lower line sustainable products are products like Corion, Staroin or some form of caultured marble, but if your looking for the real deal there is no limit to the amount of money you can spend. Knowing your budget is critical because of the wide range in products and price points.

Stepping it up a bit you could use granite (which off gases) or Cambria (a green quartz product) that has a natural look to it. Going to the highest level of green, Paperstone (made of paper), Icestone (recycled glass), or Ecotops are great choice at reasonable pricing.

Finally ansewering your last question, the size of the kitchen, square footage of counter space, and type of product choosen would all need to be factored in for an estimated time of completion, however the process of templating (one day) and the fabrications time (10-14 days) can give you a good idea of the time it would take for the project to complete.
